This week's find from The Animal Rescue Site/Greater Good Network is this adorable Snowflowers Knit Skirt. Each skirt is hand-knit by women of the Kumbeshwar Technical School (KTS), an educational and non-profit school in Nepal whose mission it is to help women and families who are discriminated against due to Nepal's caste system. The school teaches these women to knit in a three month class so they can knit for their own families and then the women who would like to earn a sustainable income are offered employment opportunities.
Super unique and super cute, the skirt is available in sizes S, M, and L. Price is 52USD, at today's exchange rates that's about 42 euro, 35GBP, 58AUD, 4806 Japanese yen, and 1572 Russian rubles ( phew!). In 100% beathable wool, hand-made, and supporting such a good cause it's a super deal.
New and exclusive to Global Girlfriend (great name!) this skirt is being offered through The Animal Rescue Site. If you don't know about Global Girlfriend check out their website. Global Girlfriend, started in 2003 by Stacey Edgar, "...helps women worldwide gain economic security for themselves and their families by earning fair wages for their handiwork. Global Girlfriend sources women-made, fair-trade imported, eco-friendly products." As we used to say back home, "You can't beat that with a stick!"
More good news: with every Sunflower Knit Skirt purchased The Animal Rescue Site will fund 84 bowls of food for animals living in sanctuaries and shelters.
I love everything about this purchase, helping women to help their families, helping homeless animals, and sourcing eco-friendly products that are fair-traded. It makes me feel hopeful about the future to say all of those words in one sentence about one product.
Best part of all for us, the skirt ships Internationally. We thank you for that Greater Good Network.
Check it out and enjoy!
